On Monday, June 13, 2011, seven Republican presidential candidates will meet for a debate in New Hampshire. Already, six months before the Iowa caucuses, the question of whether to continue subsidizing corn ethanol is sharply dividing the candidates. These subsidies cost $6 billion each year but make no sense. The candidates should explain their positions on ethanol subsidies at this debate in New Hampshire before they move on to corn-producing Iowa to try and garner support there.
The Green Scissors campaign is running advertisements in New Hampshire, asking that the candidates renounce their support for ethanol subsidies.
